What Causes Diarrhea And Gas Post Treatment For Pneumonia?
Hi my partner is suffering from pneumonia. He was prescribed with 5 days of azithromycin and 10 days of augmentin dosage. He has finished 5 days course of both the medication. But this morning he had diarrhea and is being farting a lot since. What should I do?
Noted the history about your partner about having pneumonia taken 5 days course of Azithromycin and Augmentin but developed diarrhea and wants to know what should be done. Anyway 5 days course of Azithromycin has finished. The diarrhea may be due to antibiotics and thus add on a pre and probiotic which may help. Send the sample of stool for lab along with other tests of blood for CBC and so on. If the probiotics help Augmentin can be continued. If not then your partner will be shifted on another antibiotic active against pneumonia yet not causing much GI disturbance. Further management as per the response of the patient and further development. Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
