What Causes Diarrhea And Headaches When Diagnosed With Colitis?

My mother is 84 and has Alzheimer s. It is hard to determine when something is wrong with her. She was admitted to hospital in October when she became weak. It happened quick, in a day. She was diagnosed with Colitis. She was given antibiotics and released from hospital in 4 days. She has appeared OK except for the following, she has explosive diarrhea a couple of times a week, gurgling in her stomach, sleeps more than usual and has complained with headaches. We are trying to keep her hydrated. She had her yearly wellness checkup the beginning of December but her doctor cancelled that appointment and the rescheduled appointment for this coming week. I have made an appointment with my doctor for the 4th of January. I don t want to take her to a Patients First and it does not seem serious enough for the ER. However, I would like to know what I can do for her until the January 4th appointment.

Hello,

As of now, for treatment of diarrhoea, you can hydrating enough to compensate for the loss. But I would like to advise that only water is not sufficient.

You should take oral rehydration powder from medical stores and dilute it as per description on the packet. This will be more powerful to compensate for the loss of diarrhoea.

If you want to prepare a solution at home then take 1 litre of water and add half spoon of Salt and two spoons of sugar. mix it well and give that liquid juice to your mother.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
