What Causes Diarrhea And Hemorrhoid?

My fiancé is 54 years old and has had diahrea for the last seven weeks. He went to his doctor yesterday and the doc said not to worry and that it is probably just a virus. Should we get a second opinion. It seems odd that someone can have that issue for so long. He has now also developed a small hemorrhoid. Whats happening??
