What Causes Diarrhea And Nausea Inspite Of Discontinuing Dexilant?
I recently was prescribed Dexilant for acid reflux and damage to my esophagus. It really worked and I had no acid reflux, but I developed extreme diarrhea and nausea after being on Dexilant for a couple of weeks. I finally gave in and called my gastro. doctor. I was told to discontinue the drug and start on Prevacid after giving myself a couple of days off the Dexilant. I have taken Prevacid before and it always worked just fine but I am still having the same systems after being off the Dexilant for over a week. What do I do now? I love not having any reflux but I can t work with these other symptoms.

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have diarrhea and nausea inspite of discontinuing Dexilant ,which seems to be due to disturbance of electrolytic balance of body. Well there can be many reasons for symptoms you mention in query like food intolerance , food allergy , bacterial or viral infection , parasitic infection or inflammatory bowel disease. But in your case diarrhea and nausea are probably cased by side effects of Dexilant , which will take time to completely resolve after withdrawal . You should take small quantity of food and avoid large intake at a single time. If condition persist for longer time then, I would suggest you to consult gastroenterologist for proper examination . Doctor may prescribe antibiotics like ornidazole , albendazole , omeprazole along with loperamide. You should eat light and non spicy , eat fresh fruits and vegetables and eat fruits like banana. Take oral rehydrating solution as well. Also take probiotics food like yoghurt.
