Hi My wife is suffering from loose motions and vomiting since yesterday. She took norfloxacin yesterday evening before the bed and today in the morning doc injected some antibiotics and gave her some tabs. She had all the doses and now in the night she has too many frequent motions and vomitting.. my Dr isnt picking up the phone. Given the situation what to do? She is just doing rounds of the loo every half hour. Thanks

General & Family Physician, Dr. Ajith J S's Response
Well, after each episode of vomiting and loose stools, she might feel very tired. It's better to take her to a nearby hospital where some intravenous fluids can be given. But if there was only one or two episodes of vomiting, try giving her water as sips. You can put one teaspoon of sugar and one pinch of Salt in one large glass of water and take it over two hours. Slowly try to rehydrate her. Once she is stable only give her anymore oral medications. Norfloxacin might be a bad idea and sometime she might have to go for injections.
