What Causes Diarrhea, Appetite Loss And Running Nose In A Baby?

My 7 and half months old baby is suffering from severe diarrhea since past 5days....loose motions plus loss of appetite... Also caugh n running nose...is it is the teething symptoms???? Also because of his loose motions he got so pale and dull....weight loss and skin became dry...kindly suggest what should i do??? Is its common among all infants???? What should be the remedy???

Hi,

It is common among babies of this age to get diarrhea as they develop infections due to biting on various things lying around them due to irritation and urge to bite things caused during teething. Even though it is a common occurrence, the point you need to be careful about is the dehydration part which seems to have set in your baby.

I would advise you to take your baby to a nearby pediatrician and get some intravenous fluids administered and start on antibiotics as per the advise of your treating doctor at the earliest. Till then administer fluids with sugar and salt to your baby as much as possible in any form like fruit juice, ground rice porridge with salt etc. Please note that fluid loss could be life threatening also.
