Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hello, my son is 28 days old. I have given him formula 2 times on Thursday evening( feb 22).Besides this he has been exclusively breasted. On Saturday afternoon (feb 24) his stools changed consistency , they became watery and I saw some mucus . No other symptoms have been present. The number of stool continued to be 3-4day. I haven’t given him any formula since. Should I discontinue the formula, should I come for a visit? We used Enfamil A+. We brought him to a Pediatric walk-in Sunday and the doctor said everything was ok and I could continue using the formula. Please advice, Thank you
Exclusive breastfeeding for at least 6 months is the best to feed for the child. If possible, try to avoid formula feed. As the child's gastrointestinal tract is adapting, bowel movements will be irregular, so don't worry about it. Diarrhea in a child is mainly due to rotavirus infection and it's self-limiting, so don't worry much about it.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Bhadresh Lakhani
