What Causes Diarrhea Post Alcohol Consumption?

Hi, I had my spleen removed in July of this year due to an awful wreck..I just drank some alcohol earlier today. I have been having diarrhea all night. Alcohol has never affected me this way. I drank so little that I didn t even get a buzz. Is it possible not having a spleen may have affected me differently??

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello there,
The spleen is not linked with your food tract as much that it can affect it. Alcohol has been known to cause diarrhoea at times but its tendency increases if you have had it after a long while. That is most likely what has happened to you. Have probiotics this week, like yoghurt/yakult. They would fortify your intestines and make them more resistant to alcohol. Next week if you drink again then you should be fine.

Hope this helps,
