What Causes Diarrhea While On Metoprolol Tartrate?

I recently had carotid surgery on both left and right side plus bypass artillery - artillery - - I have never had high blood pressure and after first surgery I couldn t go home because of low blood pressure; with second carotid surgery blood pressure was very irregular, high, low , high, low, etc. My cardio dr. gave me 25mg of metoprolol tartrate 3 times daily even though I have never had chest pain or a history of high blood pressure. Now I have diareria, which I cannot handle as right before I had surgery I had an upper stomach bleed.

Diarhhea can be a side effect of Metoprolol. If it is troubling you so much, I would advice you to consult your physician and ask for an alternative.
In my experience, Atenolol which belongs to same class as Metoprolol has lesser incidence of diarrhoea. They are replaceable also.
I hope the above information helps you. Thanks for writing into healthcaremagic. Have a wonderful day.
