What Causes Diarrhea With Bad Odour And Blood Drainage Through Nose?
Hello, my 20 yr old daughter just returned home on Saturday Jan 14th from a mission trip to Haiti. She has had watery extremely foul smelling diarrhea for 4 days. Bloody noses. and her hands hurt and she has had some shortness of breath. Any suggestions what she should take? She has taken Tylenol and Immodium. The urgent care told her over the phone that the dr. may only suggest a prescription strength Immodium. I am wondering if she needs something more? She is a nursing student and feels like maybe she needs something more.
Your daughter most likely has traveller's diarrhoea which resulted from contaminated food or water she had while in Haiti. She would need more than just immodium (which is best discontinued). She needs oral rehydration for now and antibiotics. The antibiotics she requires would depend on the results of stool analysis she should conduct.
Please take her to a nearby hospital to run the tests while still placing her on oral rehydration therapy.
