I have had a bad cough for 2 weeks. New today, when I cough or take a deep breath my airway closes and I cant breathe for about 15 seconds. Do you have any idea what is wrong? My doctor put me on a pill for cough and an antibiotic My chest xray was fine.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

It is due to minor bronchospasm which is quite common after an upper respiratory tract infection.

As a first-line management, you can take over the counter available bronchodilator syrups like salbutamol for symptomatic relief.

If symptoms persist, it is better to consult a physician and get evaluated.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Shinas Hussain, General & Family Physician
