What Causes Difficulty In Breathing Along With Redness In Throat?

I just went to the emergency room for a terrible cough and a sore throat that hurts my chest and robs and back. They gave me benzonatate 100 mg capsles to take 3 times a day and azithromycin 250 mg tablets to take 1 a day with a outcome of acute broncitus. Now after 4 days have passed, my throat feels like I can't breath and the back of my throat is red. The sides of my tongue are afually itchy too. (I looked with a flashlight.) Cough drops don't work with my cough and the medicine hasn't worked. What to you think is going on and what can I do?

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have symptoms of difficulty in breathing along with redness in throat. Well the symptoms you mention in query occur due to many reasons like post nasal drip due to sinusitis , sore throat ( bacterial or viral ) , allergy , acid reflux ,tonsillitis or tonsil stones . As far as breathing difficulty is concern it is very important to seek medical attention. Need not to worry. I would suggest you to consult ENT specialist for proper examination. Doctor may order throat swab test, CT scan, nasal endoscopy and physical examination. Doctor may prescribe antibiotics ( amoxicillin or penicillin ), anti viral, decongestants, anti inflammatory and drug like sucralfate for healing of throat . For now do warm saline gargles and take anti histamine like benadryl .
