What Causes Difficulty In Equalising Ears While Freediving?
Hi. I am having trouble equalising when I Freedive. I have tried heaps of different techniques it s just at pressure it won t equalise at all. I booked in to see a e.n.t specialist and he said I had a pollop in my head wich I should get taken out. But he told me there is nothing they can do for my equalising. Is this true because from my understanding if I have blocked sinuses and mucus build up my Eustachian tubes won t open up to equalise because of the blockage in the way. Cheers
Understanding your concern. As per your query you have symptoms of difficulty in equalising ears while freediving which seems to be due to eustachian tube dysfunction/ear canal dermatitis/ sinusitis. Need not to worry. I would suggest you to take nasal sprays and do warm saline gargles. You should put otogesic ear drops in ear. You should take antibiotic Levofloxacin for 5 days. You should avoid touching or pricking ear with any sharp object. Visit ENT specialist once and get it examined. You should get otoscopic examination and paranasal sinus x-ray done and start treatment after proper diagnosis. You should get audiometry testing done as well. Avoid oily and sharp food. Drink plenty of fluids.
Hope your concern has been resolved.

Best Wishes, Dr. Harry Maheshwari
