What Causes Difficulty In Losing Weight Post A Splenectomy?

Hi there, I had my spleen removed after it was ruptured while having a mini gastric bypass. I initially lost a lot of weight as I had complications with collapsed lungs and blood clots on my lungs. This was may 2015. I have gained back all the weight I lost and have a uncontrollable sugar craving. I would rather eat sweets than proper food. When I do go on 800 calorie high protein diet I do not lose weight after sticking to the low calorie diet. Why is it so hard to lose weight? I had a hysterectomy 15 years ago and 1 ovary removed. My appendix has also been removed 11 years ago. I am 45 years old. Take HRT , high blood pressure meds and high cholesterol meds. Any thoughts as to my sugar dependency? Many thanks

Hi
Thanks for posting on HCM
Generally, you gain when you you eat more than you work, that is, energy from what you eat is more than energy you use for your daily activities. The excess energy will be stored as protein in muscles and fats in adipose tissues.
The first treatment to overweight is lifestyle modification.Dependence on sweet things/artificial sweeteners may make you put on more weight. You may not need any special treatment to get over this. You just need to take a strong decision and stick to.
I will advise you try the following:
-Regular fitness exercise
-Eat only when hungry
-Eat in small quantities
-Avoid artificial sweeteners, sugary drinks and fruit juice
-Chose low carbohydrate diet
-Eat less of dairy products and nuts
-And may other measures
If these measures do not help you, you see your Doctor to get your hormones checked and if need be, weight losing pills may be prescribed.
Hope this will help
Best regards
