What Causes Difficulty In Swallowing After An Endoscopy?
My husband had a colonoscopy and endoscopy recently and the dr. opened a tightening of the espophgus. Tonight at dinner he had difficulty swallowing and as if food was stuck. Pain in the back between shoulder blades. Eventually he belched enough to bring up some foam and clear stringy mucous. Any thoughts as to what is going on, he has a follow up appointment in August. This happens about once a month, this was first time since procedure that it was this bad.
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
Slight difficulty in swallowing is quite common after an endoscopy. Especially on the initial days following the endoscopy. Continue antacids like Pantoprazole. It is better to eat semi solid foods immediately after the endoscopy. If problem persist you have to consult your gastroenterologist and evaluated. Wishing you good health.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Shinas Hussain
