Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Difficulty In Swallowing And Chest Pain While Coughing?
I have been having difficulty swallowing solid foods. I went to the er and they said it was gas and sent me home. The problem is my chest still hurts when food passes between my breast bone. I have difficult pain when I lay down or cough. Is it just gas or should I be worried.
As per your query about difficulty in swallowing and chest pain while coughing is more likely to be associated with heart burn with acidity and gastritis. Acid from stomach sometimes enters into oesophagus and throat and can cause heart burn and difficulty in swallowing with chest pain. I suggest you to consult a physician or an gastroenterologist for an evaluation of the symptoms.
Acid suppressing medications will be probably prescribed. I suggest you to avoid fasting and spicy, oily foods which aggravate acid secretion in stomach and may worsen the symptoms. As of now you can take antacids like Digene tablet or syrup to ease the condition.I hope this information helps you. Take care.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Jyoti Pandey
