General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,
Thanks for tje query. I undderstand you.
The paiful swallowing caused by lump in throat is most probably tonsillitis.. inflammation of tonsil or inflammation of adenoids.. (paratoncillar glands ) can be caused by viral, allergic or bacterial infecyion.
Rarely a long standing compaint in old age could be cancer tonsil.
Viral tonsillitis need only symptomatic treatment & self care. but bacterial or allergic problem needs antibiotic/anti allergic drugs apart home care.
Consult your family physician/ENT doctor .
Thanks.
