What Causes Difficulty In Swallowing And Tightness In The Throat?
Hi I have just developed symptoms of having trouble swallowing. Even when I swallow saliva I can feel the tightness in my throat. It feels like the area behind my trachea. I have not been felling very well the past couple of days, so maybe it is related to that. What do you think?
Difficulty in swallowing and tightness in the throat seems to be due to post nasal drip, acid reflux and respiratory infection. Need not to worry. I would suggest you to
- Avoid eating spicy and heavy food specially at night. - Take light walk after every meal. - Take antacid after every meal and eat at least one hour before going to sleep. -For now do warm saline gargles and maintain oral hygiene.
Consult gastroenterologist for proper examination. Doctor may order x-ray of digestive track , endoscopy of esophagus and may prescribe H2 blockers or proton pump inhibitor. Doctor may also refer you to ENT specialist if he/she find problem to be related with upper respiratory tract infection.
Best Wishes, Dr. Harry Maheshwari
