What Causes Difficulty In Swallowing Food After A Thyroidectomy?
yes I have had half of my thyroid taking out and yesterday I cant even swallow the food I was eating. And my right side of my neck, behind my ear has been sore for months and has a hard knot behind my ear and my mouth is sore what do you think its is and what I should do I think I have a fever too?
Thyroidectomy surgery is a challenging surgery because its located nearby to major structures of life such as carotid artery, a blood vessel supplying brain and laryngeal nerve which is important for breathing.
So life after thyroid surgery without any major problems such as breathing or eating difficulty is a boon literally.
In your case throat pain after surgery may be a small unavoidable thing because of anesthesia tube kept over there during surgery.
And throat infection overwhelming also matters because of associated fever. A course of higher antibiotics along with analgesic will definitely result positively.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr Rajeswari, General Surgeon
