What Causes Difficulty In Swallowing Food?

I am continuing to have problems eating. Many times while eating, my food stops in my esophugus and will not go down. I have to force the food up. Today, it took over 20 minutes to get a small piece of hamburger out of my throat. It hurts so badly. Why is this happening to me?

Hello!
Welcome to HealthCareMagic!

Difficult in swallowing can be due to many reasons ranging from neurological to mechanical. I recommend you go to the hospital and get a Barium Swallow done. During this test a liquid dye is swallowed and an x-ray is taken which then shows whether there are any physical problems with your esophagus.

A proper diagnosis is key to help treat whatever is causing your swallowing problem. Get a barium swallow done as soon as possible so that any time sensitive disorders get treated in the early stages.

I hope this helps!
