What Causes Difficulty In Swallowing Food?

I just got a sudden severe reaction when I swallowed some bread and honey. For a few minutes, each time I swallowed the symptoms recurred and got worse. After a few minutes I could swallow water with no trouble... I have been taking DGL Licorice for heartburn for 15 years, and it has worked well -- no troubles. I do occasionally choke/splutter when something goes down the wrong throat ... YYYY@YYYY

Difficulty swallowing is also called dysphagia.it is usually a sign of a problem with your throat or esophagus.although dysphagia can happen to any one,its most common in older patient,babies and people who have problems of the brain or nervous system.
if u have a hard time swalloing once or twice, you probably do not have a medical problem. this can happen if you have-

Had a brain or spinal cord injury.
Immune system problem that causes swelling or inflammation or weakness such as polymyosiyis or dermatomyosistis.

Esophageal spasm.

Scleroderma,in this condition tissues of esophagus become hard and narrow.

GERD.

Diverticula.

Esophegeal tumors.
