Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
81 year old father started having difficulty swallowing food or drink without choking 1 week ago. Tests indicate that he aspirates when he swallows. Had pneumonia 3 weeks ago and cough with noisy chest congestion began at same time as difficulty swallowing. Yesterday, the right side of his mouth started drooping. No headache, blurred vision or extremity weakness. What might be happening to him
Sudden onset of difficulty in swallowing is molality from brain problems like stroke or other brain disorders .This is also suggested by the drooping of mouth .So, I would suggest you should consult a Neurologist for assessment. He may need an MRI of the brain.
Hope I have answered your query.
Let me know if I can assist you further.
