What Causes Difficulty In Swallowing Saliva?

My saliva is thick & uncomfortable to swallow. I m 67 & I ve had a number of strep throats, but not for 12 years. I m pretty sure one is starting. It comes on fast. I happen to have a z-pak & I d like to start now. If it is strep it gets very uncomfortable quickly

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Your symptoms can be related to a strep infection.

But, I would recommend doing the throat culture before taking the antibiotics.

Meanwhile, I would suggest taking the anti-inflammatory medication such as Ibuprofen.

I also recommend using throat spray for antibacterial properties.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Dorina Gurabardhi,
