What Causes Difficulty In Swallowing Starchy Food?

I have difficulty swallowing potatoes and other starchy Foods. This has only been for the last few months. I also get the hiccups along with it quite often. Can you give me some advice? Can you tell me what causes this. I have no problems following other Foods and I know this is not in my hand

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Sometimes it's quite common that starch food mostly potatoes form bulk in the stomach and esophagus which make it difficult to swallow.

Along with starchy food, it's also common that with the addition of water and juice make it bulkier.

So if possible try to crush the food in fine particles or smoothie and then eat.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Nirav Nimavat, General & Family Physician
