What Causes Difficulty In Urinating Post Treatment For Prostate Gland Infection?

My 26 yo son has been experiencing some trouble urinating, swollen bladder, and finally diagnosed with a prostate gland infection, treated with IV rocephen, and then oral antibiotics. Two wks later he is still having problems with urinating, feeling fuller than what he releases, having bowel problems like diarrhea and pain in the anal area. Not been sick much in his life, so this is scaring him. Any idea what could be going on with him? Has been 6 mos since last sexual encounter, but could it be am STD? Could it be more serious? What are normal causes of this type of infection?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

I understand your concern. I see that you have already used antibiotics to treat a possible infection. I recommend doing some examinations such as:
- A complete blood count.
- A urine test
- A urine culture for further evaluation and treatment.

I also recommend to do the STD tests to exclude this possible cause.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Dorina Gurabardhi,
