General & Family Physician, Dr. Maninder's Response
Hi,
Although all the tests have already been done as the symptoms are there and no diagnosis has yet been made, I would suggest some more tests before your father is discharged from the hospital.
The first test is for brain and nerve conduction study. This test can help pinpoint the source of the symptoms.
An electroencephalogram measures electrical activity in the brain. An electromyogram evaluates electrical activity in nerves as they transmit messages to the muscles.
Nerve conduction studies measure the strength and speed of the electrical signals as they travel through nerves to muscles.
Along with that Cerebral angiography (or cerebral arteriography) can be done in which special substances are injected into the blood vessels and an X-ray is taken. This test gives a picture of the blood flow through the vessels.
This allows the size and location of blockages to be reviewed. Carotid ultrasound/Doppler ultrasound can also be done to measure the flow of blood to the carotid arteries.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr Maninder, General & Family Physician
