What Causes Difficulty In Walking While Suffering From A Knee Infection?

I am a 55 year old male and been to numerous specialist, I was hospitalized for about 5 weeks with an infection in my right knee. Doctors and asked how I got the infection, and I could not determine how I got it. I was at work doing my daily job, when all of a sudden I was having trouble walking. I wasked into the hospital and they ran tests but couldn t find what was wrong, so they discharged me I left itno a wheelchair not able to walk. Next day I went to a new hospital and they could not find anything either and suggested I see my Orthopedic. When I went there he drained my knee, the fluid looked normal he said sent me on my way. Two days later back in the hospital to have it drained again and the fluid was brown and frothy, so they operated arthroscopicLynch. That lasted 4 days and back in I went and this time they opened the knee completely. They said that the infection ate all my cartilage and now I m bone on bone. While in the hospital I started retaining fluid, so they put me on torsemide 20 MG. Well fast forward 9 moths later and many many many doctors visits I fell in am just getting passed from one doctor to another.I have not worked since and am getting VERY depressed. I am thinking of going to the hospital and have them admit me and put me on a drip diuretic to rid me of OVER 100 lbs of fluid. Please please I need help.

Hi,

From hearing your story it is hard for me also to understand how you could have gotten this infection, and now unfortunately it sounds like you have permanent damage to the knee.

I am also sorry to hear that you have retained so much fluid. I am not sure if you know the cause is from your heart? Or your kidneys?

If you are not able to use your knee, I'm sure your orthopedic would discuss surgery with you. As for the fluid retention, if you have over 100 pounds of fluid, I do think you need diuresis, and it may be appropriate for you to get IV diuretics.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
