What Causes Difficulty To Gain Weight In An Infant?

Hello, I am a concerned grandmother. My granddaughter who is 2 months old is having a hard time gaining weight. She is breast feed and ejects throwing her milk up Her mother smokes pot (or as she says medical marijuana). She was hospitalize to watch her feedings and throwing up. She has gain about a pound in the last month. She took her in today for weigh in and the doctors are asking her if she is feeding her. They are supplementing with formula too. Does smoking pot have any affect on my granddaughter? I can t stand the smell of pot I just can t imagine what it might bedoing to her. Please help

Your granddaughter could be suffering from the effects of being exposed to marijuana in the breast milk and this could be delaying her development and weight gain.
Another important factor to consider is that your granddaughter is also exposed to the smoke from the marijuana....this will have a compounding effect on her problem.
Marijuana has been documented to cause problems in infants trying to gain weight. However, there are other causes for poor weight gain. Since she has already been to the hospital I assume the doctors have ruled out any other underlying problems.
Some of the best advice for this problem would be to refer your daughter to a psychologist and social worker so that they can mentally evaluate her to see if she has any problems and from there decisions can be made to provide a stable environment for your granddaughter.
