What Causes Disappearance Of Umbilicus After Excessive Weight Gain?

My husband has gained lots of weight and it all shows in his belly and face. I am concerned because he no longer has a belly button at all. It is stretched out about the size of a 1/2 dollar and when he has a shirt on looks like it is poking out. Is this normal with belly weight gain?

Welcome to HealthcareMagic,
It is normal for umbilicus to get stretched out when the belly gets swollen. This is commonly seen in obese individuals. As you husband is obese, I recommend him to follow my given below advise.
1. Regular exercise such as brisk walking for at least 30 minutes per day
2. Consume a diet rich in fruits, vegetables and low fat dairy products.
3. Have more of legumes and beans
4. Reduce salt intake to less than 5 grams per day (1 teaspoon is approximately 5 grams)
5. Limit biscuits, cakes, pastries, pies, processed meats, commercial burgers, pizza, fried foods, potato chips, crisps and other savoury snacks.
6. Avoid consuming alcohol and aerated drinks as they have high calories.
Hope that answers you question.
Regards, Dr.Imaad
