What Causes Discoloration Of Optic Nerve In The Left Eye?
Hi. My daughter is 16 and a few years ago, we discovered during an eye exam, that her optic nerve in her left eye was discolored. She was sent to a specialist who did some extensive testing but found nothing. They said she didn t need glasses. Now, she describes what sounds like loss of her peripheral vision in her right eye and possibly her left. We are ggoing back for further testing, but what can be causing this?
Blurry peripheral vision commonly occurs due to infection, corneal abrasion, neurological issues(nerve damage due to stress & strain). Other causes can be genetics, partial vision loss, glaucoma, etc.
You are suggested to get your daughter get physically examined & eye check up done by an Eye Specialist.
The treating doctor may ask for various Imaging tests or Blood tests. She may need medications, physiotherapy or surgery depending upon the severity of the pathology detected.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr Nupur K, General & Family Physician
