Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My lips are turning black. I am a 48 year old black male. I don t smoke or drink. I wonder is it because of the black beard dye that I am using somehow gets into the skin and into the lips. Also, my lips seen to be cracked and bleed if I lightly brush them with a tooth brush. Need help.
Black discolouration of lips as per your query could be because of hyperpigmentation , allergic reaction to certain chemical agents such as dyes and could be because of melanin deposition due to excessive exposure to UV rays of sun.
Dye which you are using for beard must contain chemicals like arsenic , lead which gives their halo effect on skin and cause darkening of lips and surrounding area. It also causes dryness of lips. Because of skin irritation you must do excessive lip licking can cause chapped lips.
Donot brush your lips at all as that will cause bleeding , craks. I would suggest you to use some other alternative dye mainly containing natutal chemicals to prevent halo effect. Apply natural lip balm on lips to prevent from drying and donot apply with finger as again and again that will cause infection , apply directly. Use tea tree oil dipped in cotton swab for fastening the healing and prevent discoloration. Avoid exvessive exposure to sunlight.
You will get relief in 1-2 weeks, if your condition keeps on persisting visit dermatologist once.
Hope your concern has been resolved.
