What Causes Discomfort And Fluid Discharge From Left Ear After A Surgery?
HI my name is Beth Shortt I had surgery on the left ear due to a severe infection that lead to an abcess lesion on my brain in the back left of my head. The ENT I seen in Charolettsville VA said he had put a sponge like object over the mastatoid bone behind my left ear to capture the infection and keep it from causing farther problems and removed the lesion. This was a little over 4 years ago. Now for the past 2 years I have had severe pressure in my left ear on that bone and it seems to continue to the back left side of my head. Also drains a clear fluid at times. Dizziness occurs while leaning over to pick things up and when I lay down to sleep the pressure is the worst and cause my face to tingle or feel numb. I have been to ER over this issue and all they do is check vital signs and look in my ear with a light and send me home. I am truly concerned if maybe the sponge-like object that was inserted in the mastitoid bone is causing my issue or perhaps settting up a worse infection? Please help me!!
As per my surgical experience, the issue of discharge of fluid from the left ear and discomfort indicates possible residual infection with some sort of fungi or bacteria with or without ear drum pathology as perforation or others. The precise diagnosis with the: - Culture swab report of the discharge - Otoscopy - CT scan or MRI scan of the left ear is needed at earliest for best management guidelines
Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
