What Causes Discomfort Between The Ribs After Having Food?

Every time I eat, I get a very uncomfortable feeling for an hour or so between my ribs. It feels like my food is just sitting there and won t move down. I have always had constipation issues, but this is something that just started happening that high up within the last couple of months. I am not belching or vomiting at all.

Hello,
Thank you for your query.
Would you clarify a few things for me, please?

*what is your height and weight?
*do you smoke or consume alcohol?
*have you had Injuries or surgeries to the abdomen?
*do you have any other medical issues or take any medications?
*do you have any heart burn or pain in the upper abdominal area?
*how are your stools and urine?
*how long have you had constipation? Do you pass stool every day? What colour? Any bleeding in the past or now?

Based on your symptoms I would like to rule out Hiatal hernia, Gastroparesis and ulcers.

I recommend :
- a gastroenterologist consult
-blood tests (complete blood count)
-endoscopy, CT scan of abdomen based on clinical examination.

Based on these we can find out what is going on.
In the meantime :
-avoid filling your stomach while eating.
-chew food throughly before swallowing
-avoid water during and for a half hr after meals. Rest of the while, stay well hydrated.
-avoid spicy, oily, sugary foods and carbonated beverages.
-avoid caffeine on an empty stomach.
These irritate the gastric lining.

Hope this helps.
Please let me know if there is anything else I can help you with. Wish you good health
