What Causes Discomfort Feel At The Back Of Tongue?

I feel like something is caught on the back of my tongue. I know it's not tonsil related because I had them removed when I was a child. I'm also on the generic for protonix so it cannot be acid reflex. And occasionally if I sneeze or cough very hard, a yellowish piece of something will come up, it's foul smelling and after it comes up that feeling of something on the back of my tongue will go away for a few days then it comes right back. My throat isn't swollen and neither is my tongue I don't have trouble drinking or eating, it's just very irritating having that feel all of the time. Can you help me?
