What Causes Discomfort In Chest That Lasts For Few Seconds?
What causes a sudden sinking feeling in your chest that only lasts a second? I am having an upper GI in 2 weeks. Dr thinks I have a hiatal hernia. Could this be the hernia moving? I have anxiety, depression, IBS, and fibro. This feeling is just unnerving and wanted clarification.
You have a history of anxiety, depression, IBS and now you are suffering from discomfort in the chest that lasts for few seconds can be due to medical conditions like indigestion, muscle strain, acid reflux, inflammation of the rib joints near the breast bone, hiatus hernia, angina, etc. Depression, anxiety and stressful lifestyle may trigger these symptoms. You can take antacids and PPIs to avoid such triggers.
Take fiber rich food, avoid constipation, stay well hydrated. You can take laxatives at bedtime if required. Angina may also cause chest pain due to stressful lifestyle. Avoid depression and anxiety. Maintain healthy weight. To be on the safer side get routine cardiac function tests done to rule out any developing CAD.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Nupur K., General & Family Physician
