What Causes Discomfort In The Jaw And The Throat After Yawning?
I have been dealing with this thing for a few years now that when I yawn or open my mouth wide it feels like something shifts below my jaw and above my throat that feels like a ball that I have to physically push back into place. When I have told people about this they do not know what I am talking about
Understanding your concern. As per your query you have symptoms of discomfort in the jaw and the throat after yawning which seems to be due to temporomandibular joint dislocation as there is a very soft cushion where joint glides as it is baal and socket type and while yawning it displaces from it position. Need not to worry. I would suggest you to visit oral and maxillofacial surgeon once and get complete examination done and go for X-ray of jaws along with CT scan. Start treatment after complete diagnosis. relax jaws in that position and manually bring that back in normal position. Apply moist heat and cold packs. Go for facial muscle relaxing exercises. Take light and soft diet. Avoid opening mouth widely. Take muscle relaxants.
Hope your concern has been resolved.
Get Well Soon.
Best Wishes, Dr. Harry Maheshwari
