Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Discomfort In The Legs While On Trimethoprim?
i am taking Trimethoprim for an e-coli kidney infection for six months for some reason my musccles are starting to give me a lot of problems in my legs and behind would this have anything to do with this antibiotic? I do sit a lot at work. I have been on this for 3-4 months now
Trimethoprim is an excellent antibiotic for kidney infections, however there is no any documented or reported side effect of this drug which could cause problems in leg muscles.
I would suggest to continue trimethoprim as advised by your doctor, and try to change position at work if that helps. If the pain persists, I would advise to visit your doctor.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr. Muhammad Zahir Shah, Internal Medicine Specialist
