What Causes Discomfort In The Lungs And Ribs While Coughing?
Have been diagnosed with pneumonia about 2 weeks ago 2 different antibiotics steroids inhalers and breathing treatments. Now he feels like his left lower lung is pushing against his ribs when he coughs. Is this normal? I have to tell you he lots of fluid in both lungs and around his heart. Was told it was super imposed pneumonia.
The feeling he is experiencing is likely not from the lung, but from strain on the ligaments between the ribs from coughing so much. This is not worrisome in itself as it would only be musculoskeletal strain from the coughing, but if he was having continued fevers or feeling more short of breath, this would be reason for concern that the antibiotics were not working. Otherwise, if he has fluid in the lungs and around his heart, he may have congestive heart failure as well causing his cough and may need more medications to remove that fluid.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Aaron Branch,
