Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Discomfort In The Throat And Chest Along With Breathing Difficulty?
18 yr. old female presenting with lump-like feeling in throat, minor chest tightness and difficulty with deep breath, rash on both upper thighs -minor itching only. ER visit: did chest x-ray and looked down her throat. No scope. Gave her Prednisone prescription. Said they would give her a Benedryl shot, but instead, she was discharged. No reduction in symptoms. College student. No insurance. Went on hike to mountain waterfall in heavily wooded area in Sourthern Tennessee.
The symptoms seem to be related to some sort of allergic reaction. Yes , Prednisolone prescription would be helpful. I would also advise a course of antihistamines like Fexofenadine etc. to reduce symptoms related to allergies.
Also, advise to take lukewarm or cold showers. Hot showers will worsen the rash. She can also apply aloe-vera gel or Lactocalamine lotion on the upper thighs where the rash is present.
Hope I have answered your query.
Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Divya Kuttikrishnan
