What Causes Discomfort In The Vagina After Removing A Tampon?

2 days ago during a very heavy period (I m 41) in the night I had flooded my super plus tampon and towel. On removing the tampon I felt a suction sensation and it felt as though I had pulled something from inside my uterus. Since then, my uterus is tender to touch under my stomach (touching externally obviously!) and I have a weird uncomfortable sensation - like just before your stomach rumbles. I have always passed clots but in the past 18 months they are very large (easily cover the entire tampon). I will have one not so bad period where I bleed heavily, have clots but very little pain and then the next month it seems ultra heavy, flood numerous times in the 2nd and 3rd day, lots of clots and pain. I have been taking Ibuprofen 800mg and this helps for 8 to 12 hours. I assume I am peri menopausal. I am electively childless, my husband has a vasectomy so I don t use any birth control. This weird stomach rumbling sensation has never occurred before and has been fairly continuous for the past 2 days. Any ideas what this is (I almost feel like maybe I had a large clot attached to my tampon that wasn t fully released from the uterine wall and I pulled it off when removing my tampon hence the bloating and weird sensation??)

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Based on the history you have shared, ultrasound pelvis and blood work up should be done to rule out tampon related infections. Tampons can cause local as well as systemic infections so should be ruled out as soon as possible as antibiotics cover may be needed if so.

Meanwhile OTC analgesics like acetaminophen or Ibuprofen can be used.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
