What Causes Discomfort On Left Side Post Left Tube Removal?

I had my left tube removed 16 years ago due to ectopic pregnancy. every now and again, I feel discomfort on the left side,. during cold weather, I assume due to scar tissue. in the past week, starting during my cycle, I have experienced intermittent sharp pain on the left side. this is akin to what I felt the day I was diagnosed with the ectopic pregnancy. pain meds do not help. I have an apt with the GYN tomorrow. should this wait?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

Recurrent cramps involving left adnexa after a surgery long time back can be due to various reasons as:
- Pelvic or adnexal adhesions
- Irritation of adjacent colon
- Non-specific spasms

In my clinic, I do recommend a primary assessment with an ultrasound of the abdomen and pelvis, the results of which may decide the need of CT abdomen or diagnostic laparoscopy according to the clinical need.

Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
