What Causes Discomfort On The Right Side After A Back Surgery?

I had major back surgery in October 2016 fusing 3 vertebrae with rods and a cage around them. Walking is so very good for the surgery, but every time I walk i get stitches in my right side and cannot figure what is causing this. I am 71 years old and walking 1 to 2 miles a day weather permitting. Thanks for your answer. YYYY@YYYY
