What Causes Disorientation And Lack Of Concentration In A Child?

I have a 16 year old son who is very smart but not doing very well in school. He is creative and an avid reader but he he is disorganized, easily distracted, doesn t remember to do all his homework, forgets to hand it in sometimes etc. I took him for ADHD evaluation when he was a child and was told that he did not have it. This issue has continued for a while now and I am worried about his future if he doesn t do well in school. Could he possible have ADHD and we missed it somehow? Also I am worried about the side effects of ADHD medicines like Aderoll and vivans? I have read about them and the side effects worry me tremendously, I want to be informed as to what to expect and to know that my child will be ok. Can you help inform me so that I can be at knowing that I am not making a mistake ? Thank you.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

If your child has been investigated & evaluated and does not have ADHD then you should not worry.

Lack of focus in children may occur due to inadequate sleep, strenuous family background, arguments at home, stress and improper diet.

Take care of his diet, help him get adequate sleep, maintain a healthy home environment, keep him out of stress. Wait & watch while your encourage him. He should improve.

But if his disorientation problem enhances you should get him re-examined & get him evaluated & diagnosed.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
