Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I was recently prescribed Celexa 40 mg to help with depression and anxiety. I've been taking it for 3 days now and I have this awful taste in my mouth. Everything I eat and drink tastes awful. It doesn't matter if it's water or soda, crackers or a cheeseburger, it tastes like this awful taste in my mouth and makes me want to throw up. Is this normal and if so, how long will it last?
Celexa that contains active ingredient Citalopram can cause bad taste in mouth and it is a commonly seen side effect with Celexa and other anti-anxiety and depression medicines.. It can also cause a dry mouth that can indirectly affect taste.. So if you are not able to cope up with it consult your Physician and discuss about the symptoms so that he can either change the medicine or tit rate the dose.. You should as of now drink plenty of water and chew flavoured sugar free chewing gum to mask the bad taste.. Keep your tongue clean using a tongue scraper so that the medicine particles does not accumulate that can also worsen the taste.. Many a times when the body gets used to the medication the side effects become tolerable and even less noticed..
Hope this helps..
Regards.
