What Causes Disturbed Sleep After Recovering From Flu?

Hi doctor, i m a 37 year old male, who for the past 6 weeks or so has had problems with sleep fragmentation. I find it easy to fall asleep, but wake up after approx. 1 1/2 hours, fall asleep again etc... I am a little stressed, and trying to solve that. All this started after a flu, and after I started doing cardio, but do not know if there is a relation. I have stopped exercising, and no luck.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Some advice that I can give you are:
• Stop drinking alcohol at least 4 hours before bedtime
• Avoid caffeine within 8 hours before bedtime
• Have dinner 3 to 4 hours before sleep
• Use chamomile tea before sleep
• Do something relaxing, like listening to music, until you feel sleepy again
• If you wake up in the middle of the night, resist the temptation to check your phone
• Remove any potential nighttime distractions, such as light or noise

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Dorina Gurabardhi
