Good Afternoon Doctor, I just had a colonoscopy and, of course, was out of it when the doctor came in, however, reading my papers at home he has diverticulosis listed and I just was wondering what this all happens to a person, so I looked it up online and got the answer.
General & Family Physician, Dr. Vasudha's Response
Hi, Thanks for asking. Diverticulitis cause pouches formed in intestines . They are supposed to be caused by fiber free diet. Fibers normally are not absorbed during food digestion .. remain in stools... absorb water to make the stools soft , thus helping in process of deification Absence of fibers in diet causes excessive strain to intestines in pushing down the waste products of digestion ( stools )... Thus some part of intestines get weak to form a pouch or diverticulum .. this gets infected & inflamed to cause Diverticulitis. Thanks
