I am taking Amlodipine 5 mg once per day and Metoprolal 25 mg twice a day. I am getting dizzy often, am "spaced out" muc h of the time, and cannot wake up - always tired. Plus have tightness in chect and/or light pain in middle of chest. Should I stop one of these two druga?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello there,
Amlodipine and metoprolol are both medicines that reduce your blood pressure. With concurrent dosage there may be a phase where the pressure is reduced too low and therefore the body does not get adequate blood flow. The reduced blood flow to your brain may cause you to have fainting spells and generalized fatigue. You can contact your doctor and ask him to adjust your dosage such that the blood pressure remains more even through the day. Word of caution-Do not stop taking any medicine on your own as these drugs have to be adjusted by a doctor. Sudden withdrawal or alteration can lead to more symptoms.

Thank you for your query,
