Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My husband has been given ciprofloxacin for a bacterial infection and i cant get the clinic to call me back. He is so dizzy and was vomiting so he took the ondansetron that was also prescribed. The cipro is only for 3 days and he is almost done with it. Should he continue to take both of these two meds? He cant even stand up because he is so dizzy. When he finishes the prescription will the dizziness stop? Can he take something else for the dizziness because that seemes to be his only complaint besides a bad headache.
Hello! I have been through your your question. According your concern I think you should know that ciprofloxacin may have some side effects. It is known that ciprofloxacin can have as major side effects but rare dizziness, faintness, or lightheadedness when getting up suddenly from a lying or sitting position and nausea and vomiting, like the same symptoms that you have. But, of course when he has finished or stopped the ciprofloxacin these side effects (related it) will stop. What I suggest in this situation is to talk as soon as possible with your doctor for these major side effects and to decide to stop or not the ciprofloxacin. Furthermore, during this time I suggest to stop ondansetron as well (because also it can cause dizziness as side effect) and use metoclopramide if you have vomiting, and should drink a lot of water and take tresol. Related dizziness, often gets better without treatment but in your case I think will be improved when you stop the ciprofloxacin (so you don't need treatment). I hope my answer help you. I wish a quick recovery.
