Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have been on 10 mg lisinopril for yrs. Recently I had to have pre-op for something nd the Dr tolld me my blood pressure was too high. so he told me to take 20 mgs now of Lisinopril and prescribed me 120 mgs of Diltiazem. This sounded like too much for me but i took it. Yesterday I had a tooth pulled and alot of anesthesia. Every time I get up from lying position today i have intense and very fast dizziness, also an upset feeling in my stomach. Do you think the anesthesia had anything to do with this? My instinct is to stop the diltiazem and just go back to the 20 mgs of Lisinopril to stop this horrifying dizziness every time I rise from a lying position. I did not have this awful dizziness or sick feeling in my stomach before the tooth extraction. If I have to stop one of the blood pressure which do you reccommend? I have taken the Lisinopril for yrs and just start taking the Diltiam recently. My blood pressure was pretty high which I was not aware of when i went to the Heart Dr 2 weeks ago and he said i had a rapid heartbeat- I thinnk the top # was close to 170 but i had not felt any pain or symptoms whatsoever.

General & Family Physician, Dr. Vasudha's Response
Hi,
The symptoms can follow a general anesthesia/overdose of BP medicine. Actually, the change of BP medication needs to be followed up several times ..in order to settle the final dose. So before stopping anything. Consult the prescribing doctor (heart specialist). Till then take rest and consult on the phone before stopping the additional pill. Avoid sudden change of posture. Drink sufficient water, coconut water, and nourishing food.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr. Vasudha Jayant Athavale, General & Family Physician
