What Causes Dizziness Along With An Ear Infection?
Hello, I went to the E.R. last week because of intense dizziness. I was diagnosed with benign positional vertigo and told to see my primary care dr. within a few days. My primary felt the dizziness would go away on its own and recommended I see an E.N.T. if I didn t feel better by this week. I saw and E.N.T. yesterday because I am still a bit dizzy and she stated I might potentially have an ear infection in my left ear. She couldn t see any redness or fluid in my year. She prescribed prednisone for this potential ear infection. I am wondering if this ear infection could go away on its own or if there is something else I could take instead of the prednisone. E.N.T. feels that the potential infection would explain why I am still a bit dizzy and why, upon doing a hearing test, my left ear was performing slightly less than my right ear.
If it is benign positional vertigo, do Epley's maneuver (details of which can be available with ENT or you can search it on internet).
It is simple procedure involving movements of head which initially cause dizziness as you are feeling now. However, upon repetition of maneuver it will be resolved.
Besides for dizziness, you can take tablet Cinnarizine or Prochlorperazine. However it is prescription only drug so you have to get prescription from primary care doctor of ENT surgeon.

If ear infection is confirmed, start Amoxicillin + Clavulanic acid (antibiotic) course of 5 to 7 days. Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
